Monday 27 January 2014

Clouded out all morning, then rain and high winds, lucky the winds blew a gap my way and got today's image.
None of the sunspots on the Earth-facing side of the sun are actively flaring. However, two old sunspots, AR11944 and AR11946, which produced big flares three weeks ago, are just beginning to show up on the limb again, after their trip around the far-side of the sun.

Sunday 26 January 2014

Between the high winds/hail/rain caught a gap, got a single image and packed up just before the hail storm started again.
Sunspot AR1957 has a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that poses a slim threat for M-class solar flares.

Saturday 25 January 2014

Between the clouds a gap was seen, then packed up as it looked like rain, and correct, but also with thunder and lightening and sideways rain with high winds.
None of these sunspots is actively flaring. Solar activity is low.

Thursday 23 January 2014

A very quick 1/800th sec of cloud free Sun today, and caught it.
Sunspots AR11957 and AR11959 have 'beta-gamma' magnetic fields that harbor energy for M-class solar flares.

Wednesday 22 January 2014

Glad to get a quite early image, before the rain arrived again.
Sunspots AR11957 and AR11959 have 'beta-gamma' magnetic fields that harbor energy for M-class solar flares.

Tuesday 21 January 2014

All day waiting for a gap and a cloudy one showed up mid afternoon.
Sunspot AR11959 has a 'beta-gamma' magnetic field that harbors energy for M-class solar flares.

Monday 20 January 2014

Waiting for a gap, which paid off about lunch time, loads of new AR growing.
Solar activity is low as none of the spots on the Earth-side of the sun is actively flaring.

Sunday 19 January 2014

From a cloudy hazy morning the Sun appeared and burnt off the haze.
A phalanx of new sunspots on the sun's south-eastern limb poses a threat for M-class solar flares, not Earth-directed.

Saturday 18 January 2014

After high winds and rain again, caught a gap, then quickly packed up as the rain threatened to return.
But should be interesting this week with all the new AR rotating.
An unnumbered sunspot just behind the sun's south-eastern limb is crackling with solar flares.

Thursday 16 January 2014

Just before the clouds and rain rolled in, got today's image.
None of the sunspots on the Earth-side of the sun poses a threat for strong flares. Solar activity is low.

Tuesday 14 January 2014

Hazy frosty morning, cleared a bit later.

Monday 13 January 2014

Hazy morning but got clearer for a short time around lunch, then clouded again...

Saturday 11 January 2014

Just before I set off to the Astronomy For Fun Stargzing live event we organised, got today's image.
Sunspot AR11944 has a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class solar flares.

Friday 10 January 2014

Back to the rain and wind again, but found a gap, so a cloudy image today.
Sunspot AR11944 has a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class solar flares.

Thursday 9 January 2014

Best day so far this year, even with the high winds and the Sun being only about 21'.
Giant sunspot AR11944 has a 'beta-gamma-delta' magnetic field that harbors energy for X-class solar flares.

Tuesday 7 January 2014

Managed to catch a gap today, and look how AR11944 is growing.

Monday 6 January 2014

Had to grab today's image though a quick gap in the fast moving clouds.
